However, the primary purpose for this website is to illustrate a proposal for what an “endgame” could look like for the US tech tree in the game, World Of Tanks, and to show that there’s still plenty of life left to breathed into this game. My aim is to see as many tanks in the game about tanks as possible, and I hope to show that in a way that respects both the historicity of the tanks shown and the balance of the game overall. As such, I will not be going into great detail on individual statistics. Rather, I will only be showing the possible modules for each tank, changes that could be made to make it more historically authentic, a historical overview, and how the tank’s playstyle may be represented in-game. I will also attempt to future-proof this by including alternate hulls, half-tracks, and wheeled vehicles. This is certainly not perfect and everything is subject to change. This is still a work in progress, and updates are frequent if not daily. This is a fan project and a labor of love.

The earliest motorized AFVs were tractors with crude metal plates bolted on to give some protection to the driver and passengers. Lighter armoured cars soon became commonplace with all the belligerents. The British led the way in the development of tanks, although the name was not yet decided.

Aircraft Ammunition belt types Currently there are seven principal types of ammunition in-game, featuring slightly different shell types depending on nation: Universal ammunition is generally suitable for any engagement. Air Targets ammunition is used for destroying air targets more effectively and will often prove itself useful against non-armored ground units like trucks and MG emplacements. Tracer ammunition is useful for newer players, because it allows you to see where your shots are travelling more easily than other ammunition belts, allowing for easier aiming.

This ammunition type generally does little damage on armor of 20mm or greater, however some nations’ machine gun rounds have very dangerous incendiary tracer belts, e. The Night belt is on the right. Night ammunition is a variation of tracer ammunition where the tracer isn’t as bright, to help prevent flash blindness and preserve the pilot’s night vision.

Night battles are rare in War Thunder, but once in it, the usual tracer rounds shine bright like lasers in the sky, showing every pilot the location of a dogfight. A severe disadvantage in Realistic and Simulator mode. Ground Targets ammunition is recommended for killing ground units, or more heavily armored aircraft,as it features mostly armor piercing rounds which more effectively defeat armor than other shell types.

Armored Targets ammunition is almost always the highest penetrating belt available for a plane.

Light tank — about 13, built Origins: Soon, it became clear that a new model, which could be favorably compared to the European models, had to be studied for mass production. This was in , and became the forerunner of all light tanks to come. None of the M1s built saw action, but were used as training machines. The last M1A1 version was equipped with a 37 mm 1. In , a new model, the M2 Light Tank , was designed.

If you select a M5 Stuart, and your buddy jumps in his M3 Lee, you could end up dragging him up to a tier 7 match. EDIT: Premium tanks sometimes come with special matchmaking (+1/-2). These tanks are treat as if they were a tier lower. An example would be a T14 .

People grind to a tier 5 light and still have no idea how to use a light. If you are using a light tank, you use your own discretion. People say suicide scouting is ineffective and selfish, this is not always the case and I will be going over that. You are not a regular tank. It takes time to adapt to not stopping behind cover all the time, or to stop and shoot then keep moving. What you need to be doing is 1. By circling you are exposing yourself to fire, if there is someone behind the tank you decided to circle, you just gave them a nice clear shot, so use caution and gut instinct of when and where to do this.

Some LTs just lack the penetration or power to do this mind you, specifically when it comes to higher tier heavies, if you are unlucky you might just end up bouncing off their rear.

Cavalry had the M1 and M2 Combat Cars. The light tanks had twin turrets, one mounting a. The Combat Cars had a single turret mounting both machine guns. The last in the series was the M2A4 which mounted a 37mm gun in the turret with 5 machine guns 1 mounted coaxially and the remaining 4 mounted in the hull.

A further modification of the M3 Stuart, the M5 entered production in April By June a total of 8, vehicles in two variants had been produced. The tank was used in all theaters of war.

Inland Manufacturing Division was formed on January 6, when General Motors formed the division to produce an automotive steering wheel consisting of an iron spoke covered with a glued on wood veneer, which was a new technology at the time for producing this product. The first product of an automotive steering wheel expanded to many others and by the time of its 50th anniversary in the product line had expanded to products produced by 7, employees.

Of special note is the fact that the when the new division started producing its new type steering wheels in it did so in the buildings previously occupied by the Dayton Wright Airplane Company, and employed many of the same persons that had during WWI built components for 3, DeHaviland DH-4 military aircraft that were assembled in Moraine, OH. The two buildings, called Plant 3 by the Dayton Wright Airplane Company had originally been built by the Wright Brothers in and When the original Inland complex was razed in the early 21st century, the original Wright Brothers buildings were spared and are being preserved has the historic buildings they are for future generations and will be open to the public at some date in the future.

Even though Detroit Transmission developed what became one of GM’s most recognizable products in the Hydra-Matic and later Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission, its name has been lost to history. In the name of the Division changed to Hydra-Matic, which is the name most persons familiar with the auto industry recognize. The complete story is below, including Detroit Transmission’s wartime era booklet entitled “Teamwork in Peace and War”. A state of the art WWII technology leader? While the 37mm gun was insufficient to destroy another tank, and its armor plate too thin to protect the crew against German tank guns, its Hydra-Matic transmission was state of the art.

Every tank or tank destroyer built for the US military after the M5, including the M1 Abrams, had an automatic transmission.

Development history[ edit ] Top: Fitters assembling an M2A4 light tank at a British ordnance depot. US Army infantry tank design started with the Light Tank, T1 during the s, which developed into a series of experimental designs which didn’t enter production. The T2 concept, starting five years later, incorporated several design lessons from the T1, but used a new suspension system copied from the British Vickers 6-Ton tank.

Mar 09,  · The M3 is the best Stuart because of matchmaking, but aside from that; It has the same 37mm guns as the M5, it weighs less so accelerates faster, has more armour and it’s alowed to fight things it’s own tier instead of being the slowest scout in the game.

The Americans manufactured the gun in large numbers after its adoption, building 1, units before the end of World War I. However, the need for a tank gun was in high demand after the German Blitzkrieg tactics showed that their current tank inventory was insufficient. Thus, the gun that would become the 75 mm gun was derived from the 75 mm Gun M Service The 75 mm gun was first used as the M2 variant mounted onto the M3 Lee on a sponson mount.

This was an interim design due to the lack of turret able to mount the gun. The 75 mm gun greatly benefited the Allies due to two reasons. Firstly, it was able to knock out most German tanks at the time, such as the Panzer III and the Panzer IVs ; secondly, the 75 mm gun has the benefit of being dual-purpose, firing armor-piercing or high-explosive rounds.

This luxury is not experienced by most other contemporary tank guns except perhaps the Soviet F cannon. The turret development finished in as well as the tank design, and the 75 mm gun was also upgraded into the M3 variant. This longer gun was mounted in the finished turret on the newly developed M4 Sherman tank, where it would perform favorably against the Axis forces.

While its applications as a tank gun is acceptable, the air force requested for a heavy-hitting aircraft for anti-ship assaults by air. The solution was the use of a B G bomber with a 75 mm gun in the nose. The model first used was the anti-aircraft variant M4, but this was rejected. While the concept was interesting, the practicality of the armament was not efficient, it was hard to aim, made the plane much heavier, and has a low fire rate that allowed only four rounds fired per strafing runs.

Consequently, little research and development was performed. German victories in Europe exploiting firepower and mobility of tank warfare rekindled interest in tanks among U. Several models of the light tank were developed, including the M1, M2 and M3 series. There was no M4 light tank designation in order to avoid confusion with the M4 medium tank, then under production.

In September of design improvements were made, culminating in the M5A1, the ultimate refinement of the ‘s vintage U.

Jul 21,  · The M5 Stuart Needs To Have Match Making Values Adjusted Down – posted in Light Tanks: Now that the tier 5 M24 Chaffee light scouting tank has been introduced, the old tier 4 M5 Stuart should have its match making values reduced. Currently, the M5 Stuart is still being tossed into high tier matches as the primary scout.

On one hand, it had several superior characteristics to its predecessor, the Light Tank M3. Some elements of the design were a definite step forward. For example, the Americans began to use welding to assemble it. On the other hand, some design decisions reduced its battle worthiness. The tank became cramped and uncomfortable for the turret crew. It’s not surprising that another modernization quickly followed, which led to the most perfect form of the Light Tank M3 family: Catching up with new standards Despite all issues that the turret basket and gun stabilizer introduced, the Light Tank M3A1 was anything but a temporary measure.

Almost as many were built as M3 light tanks, and they saw widespread use in combat, including in the US Army. However, this tank went into production under different conditions. It so happened that a competition broke out among American light tank designers. One cause was that the aircraft engines used by American tanks were in high demand, which led to a search for alternatives. American medium tanks experienced a need of a new engine around the same time. This was the initial incarnation of the Light Tank M3A3.
